IRS2Go Is Now the IRS App: What You Can Do From Your Phone
The IRS launched a new mobile app on September 25, 2026, replacing IRS2Go. Here is what it can do — and a warning about fake look-alike apps.
On September 25, 2026, the IRS announced a new mobile app that replaces IRS2Go and gives taxpayers secure access to more of their account from their phones.
What the App Can Do
After signing in, taxpayers can:
- Check refund and amended return status
- View balance information
- Make payments and review payment history
- View some notices and letters
- Access tax records and transcripts
- Update certain communication preferences
- Get an Identity Protection PIN
How to Get It
The app is free on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Current IRS2Go users do not need a separate download — the app arrives through the normal update process.
What It Does Not Replace
IRS.gov and the IRS online accounts remain available, and the app initially offers only selected Individual Online Account features. Phone and in-person help also remain available if you prefer to speak with someone directly.
Watch Out for Fake Apps
The IRS warns taxpayers to watch for look-alike apps, ads, and unsolicited messages claiming to offer access to IRS accounts. The IRS reminds everyone that it will not request sensitive personal or financial information through unsolicited texts, emails, or pop-ups.
In a related warning, the IRS recently cautioned taxpayers and businesses about promoters selling fake "Tribal Tax Credits" that do not exist under federal law. If someone offers you a tax credit that sounds too good to be true, check with your tax professional before paying for anything.
